MEG STAIRES
I grew up in Northeastern Oklahoma, in a house full of brothers and sisters, in the middle of the woods. Homebirth and unmedicated birth was pretty normalized in my community. I remember going to midwife appointments with my mom and being present at my siblings’ births.
I took a circuitous path to midwifery, with stops along the way at paramedic school and a year in medical school. Ultimately I knew that midwifery was the job for me because I get to take my time with each person and individualize the care I give, and I can be of service to my community. Before moving to Arkansas, I lived in many different places and I attended births and provided reproductive healthcare and education in the Philippines, the Middle East, and Colorado. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Women and Gender Studies from the University of Colorado, and I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). I am licensed in Arkansas and Oklahoma and I attend birth in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.
I live in Fayetteville in a slightly messy house with my partner and our two slightly messy children. I love gardening, running, reading, cooking, and pretty much anything that could be described as an adventure.
